ODE Technology sponsored a recent national fire rescue skills competition, providing hydraulic rescue tools and technical support for the timed vehicle extrication and breaching events that form the competition's core.
Teams from provincial and municipal fire corps competed in scenarios including rapid vehicle extrication, door breaching and structural shoring, all judged on speed, technique, tool handling and victim-care coordination. ODE battery cutters, spreaders, rams and the ZC-35 support kit were used across multiple stations.
Skills as the decisive factor
Competitions underscore a truth of rescue work: tools only deliver their rated performance in trained hands. Events like these standardize best practices, surface common handling mistakes and let instructors compare techniques across regions.
Beyond sponsorship
ODE field engineers staffed the equipment stations, performed maintenance between rounds and ran side workshops on battery management and tool inspection for participating crews. Company representatives also collected direct feedback from competitors - an input the R&D team treats as some of the most valuable data it receives.
"Sponsoring skills is investing in outcomes," an ODE representative said at the closing ceremony. "Every well-trained crew makes the whole rescue system stronger."
